Wedding Newspaper Announcement Template

I was going through some old "draft" posts, and I found this one and thought I ought to go ahead and finish it up and hit the 'Publish' button! This will be horribly boring for anyone not planning a wedding, but will probably be helpful for anyone who is!

This is our newspaper announcement from the wedding (cut out and laminated! haha):

Being an English major, I was kind of obsessed with making sure it was written just the right way. I read through weeks of wedding announcements in various papers to come up with the best way to word it. Most wedding announcements follow the same general pattern, so I ended up with a template of sorts which I used for our announcement.

To save other brides from spending their precious time doing this like I did, I'm going to go ahead and print here the template I created. Just fill in the brackets! This template will work for a traditional, ceremony + reception, hosted-by-bride's-parents, traditional-families event, but could be easily adapted to fit your needs.

  1. Thanks for sharing! Something I've been wondering, though: how do you go about contacting a newspaper? I live in a fairly large town/area, so I'm not sure if my newspaper even does wedding announcements. LOL.

  6. @ Miss Puppy Love - Houston's a really big area too, but our paper has a whole section for weddings/engagements/anniversaries! I'd just get a copy of your Sunday paper and have a look! The Houston Chronicle had an email address on their website for the Celebrations section, so I just emailed to ask how it all works. They had some specifications for the photo, and different prices based on how many lines you wanted, whether or not the picture was in color, etc. Also, our paper publishes a few different versions because Houston's so big (so they can include "local" info for everyone), and it was less expensive to publish the announcement in just our area than in the entire city, so that's what we did. Hope that helps!

@ Laura - That's just what everybody does! Haha. Maybe it's one of those "Texas things," but that's the norm. Everybody publishes the announcement in the Sunday paper the day after the wedding, so you have to submit it to the paper a few weeks before the wedding, and obviously you don't have any wedding photos at that point! So everybody just uses bridal portraits. Of course, bridal portraits are kind of a Southern thing, so I'm sure it's different in other places! I read the wedding section in our paper a lot when we were engaged, and I only ever saw one that wasn't a bridal portrait (they used an engagement photo).
