30 Before 30

I've seen a lot of young bloggers lately who have a "30 Before 30" list... a sort of Bucket List for their twenties of things that they want to do before turning thirty. I loved the idea right away, and I've been working on my own 30 Before 30 List for quite some time.

The start of 2012 motivated me to finish it up and publish it for the world to see to keep myself accountable. Of course, I won't turn 30 until 2019, and who knows if I'll still have this blog at that point (I guess it's fully possible that the "Internet" as we know it will be something totally different by then!), but here it is anyway, in random order:
  1. Host a New Year's Eve party. (completed 12/31/2011, and again 12/31/2012)
  2. Pay off our mortgage. (completed June 2014)
  3. Go on a spontaneous vacation.
  4. Get Lasik surgery.
  5. Drink champagne even though there's nothing in particular to celebrate. (completed March 2015)
  6. Own a power tool of my very own. (completed December 2011)
  7. Give a large sum of money to someone that isn't at all expecting it.
  8. Get a DSLR camera and figure out how to use it. (completed 2012-2015)
  9. Re-read the Bible. Every page of it.
  10. Become a mother. (completed April 2014)
  11. Have a master bedroom that feels cozy and luxurious.
  12. Learn all the lyrics to Ice, Ice Baby.
  13. Finish law school. (completed May 2013)
  14. Get a library card and use it. (completed October 2012)
  15. Get a new car and bid a fair adieu to Mazda. (completed April 2013)
  16. Finish scrapbooking my high school photos.
  17. Decorate our second guest bedroom. (completed 11/12/2012)
  18. Find the perfect pie crust recipe.
  19. Go wine tasting in actual wine country. (completed August 2012)
  20. Pass the Bar exam. (completed July / November 2013)
  21. Make creme brulee.
  22. Visit Alaska. (completed August 2013)
  23. See a beautiful, natural waterfall. (completed March 2013 in Texas, again August 2013 in Alaska/Canada, and again August 2013 in Snoqualmie, Washington!)
  24. Take a weekend trip to a Texas town I've never seen before. (completed March 2013)
  25. Raise a basil plant and stop paying for fresh basil at the grocery store.
  26. Learn to like drinking water. (completed sometime around 2013 or 2014!)
  27. Re-read at least three Jane Austen books. (Persuasion - August 2013, Mansfield Park - September 2014, one more left!)
  28. Go to a restaurant and order dessert instead of dinner.
  29. See the Grand Canyon. (completed June 2016)
  30. Do something really special for our fifth anniversary in July 2015.
I think it's a good assortment... if I do all of it, I'll definitely have a lot of wonderful memories and experiences to look back on after I turn 30!

I tried to fill the list with things that will challenge me, but are also realistic. I don't want to turn 30 and only have half of it done... I really want to finish the whole thing. I've actually already begun a few of them, so I'm off to a good start!

Do any of y'all have a 30 Before 30 list? I'd love to see yours - share your link!

  1. thanks so much for your sweet comment the other day!

i have honestly never thought about what i'd like to put on a 30 before 30 list. but i guess it would look something like, for starters:

    1. have an eight year old and, god-willing, a few more little ones running around.
    2. hopefully own, but at least live in, a house.
    3. have two cars, one of which will almost definitely be a minivan.
    4. be debt-free, except for the above mentioned house.
    5. go on a no-kids vacation for our five year anniversary.
    6. with my siblings, treat my parents to a trip for their thirty year anniversary.

  2. Here is my 30 Before 30 list: http://www.ncsuz.com/2008/07/welcome.html

I started 2 years before I turned 30 and am still working on a few and I'm 31 now. Oh well! Life didn't end at 30 and they were still things I wanted to do!

I can't believe you are going to pay off your mortgage before 30! How in the heck are you doing that? You must post about it!

  5. I just wanted to stop by and say Hi!!! I see we have a lot in common. First things first, good luck on your Bar Exam in November, I am taking my LSAT in October, so it is very exciting. What I really love about your blog is that you show I can still do the things I love, such as crafting and still focus on many other things :). I really enjoy your blog.
