Jeff's parents ended up offering to let us use one of their timeshare credits (yay!), so in the end we based our decision on which timeshare units were available at the right time. We initially were looking for something in the Sonoma/Grand Canyon area, but after finding basically nothing we shifted our sights to a DC/Williamsburg trip, which I'm really excited about!
We found a great timeshare in Williamsburg, and we're now planning a trip to Washington, DC and Williamsburg, VA! We'll have 2 days (with one night) in DC, then 2 days and 3 nights in Williamsburg, and then one last day in DC before we head home to Texas.

As for Williamsburg, we're of course going to do the whole Colonial Williamsburg thing. I've wanted to go there since I was a little girl, so I'm pretty excited!

From what I've read online, Colonial Williamsburg can be pretty much done in one day, so we've been looking around at other things to do in VA as well. We're considering going to Berkeley Plantation, or maybe Sherwood Forest or Shirley Plantation.

Before we head back to Houston, I think we're going to take a quick trip to see the University of Maryland. Jeff just started an online Master's degree program through them (which his company is reimbursing us for - love them!), and he wants to at least see the university he's getting a degree from! Haha.

Want to know the best part of this whole thing? The timeshare we ended up getting has two bedrooms, so we asked our friends Kristen and Dan if they want to come along, and they said yes! So we can have more fun times like these...

Does anyone have recommendations for things to see in Williamsburg or DC? What should we make sure not to miss? Anyone have restaurant recommendations? Advice/tips for getting around DC?
Definitely go to the Spy Museum and the Newseum if you can. Really interesting. And if you're up for it, the Holocaust museum (even though it's really depressing). They also recently reopened the American History museum after renovations, so that's fun too.
ReplyDeleteMy number one piece of advice - Don't try to drive in D.C. Take the metro whenever possible. While its not the best public transportation out there, it's millions easier than driving.
For restaurants I'd look on urbanspoon and see what you want to have, and a few of the previous Top Chef contestants have restaurants here too.
When's your trip? If it's the right timing you might even get to see the cherry blossoms! Have fun planning the trip!
We LOVED Mount Vernon- totally worth the trip out of the city. The house is so neat and the museum is really well-done. Have fun!

ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Old Town it is an adorable area and mount vernon is really cool, especially if you're a history buff (also the American History Museum). Also, definitely take the metro. It's known for being very clean and reliable and way easier than driving.
